Primary Purpose

The Controller is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the financial systems and frameworks to support a robust finance function and position the company for the next phase of significant growth. In the first four to six months, the Controller will be hands-on across all aspects of the function and will assess, identify and implement measures to improve finance and business operations, including: day-to-day accounting functions; the analytic and reporting capabilities of the function; and contributing to business strategy. Once a strong foundation for the finance function is established, the Controller has the potential to elevate over time from a tactical role to becoming a key strategic partner to the CEO and COO in scaling the business and managing for growth. The Controller will work closely with the COO and will oversee and mentor the Senior Manager, Finance and Operations. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assesses, develops and oversees the operations of the Finance Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll, cash flow management, reporting, and all business operations.
  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Oversees the production of periodic financial reports for Nebo’s leadership; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
  • Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
  • Produces annual budget and forecasts.
  • Improves processes and educates the team to ensure use of financial metrics in strategic decision-making.
  • Provides analysis of key financial trends.
  • Identifies opportunities for cost savings.
  • Maintains and builds partnerships with external advisors and coordinates timely tax filings. 
  • Oversees contracting with vendors and consultants. 
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned. 


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
  • Eight to ten years or more of related experience, ideally in a professional services environment and/or in a start-up during a period of high growth.
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.

  • Previous experience as a Controller, with strategic advisory experience.
